HLR Lookup API

An HLR (Home Location Register) lookup asks the mobile network about a number: whether it is active, which operator serves it after porting, and whether it is roaming. It tells you what a numbering-plan check cannot: if a valid mobile number can actually receive calls and SMS right now.

Live network lookups are in development. Contact us for early access. Today, /v1/validate returns the carrier and line type from numbering and carrier data, without a network query.

What an HLR lookup tells you

Network status
Whether the number is active (connected) or absent on the network.
Current operator
The operator that serves the number now, after any porting.
Ported
Whether the number was moved from its original operator.
Roaming
Whether the subscriber is currently on a network abroad.

Frequently asked questions

When will the HLR lookup API be available?

It is in development. Contact us to get early access and to be told when it launches.

What is the difference between HLR lookup and phone validation?

Validation checks a number against the numbering plan and carrier data. An HLR lookup queries the mobile network live and also tells you whether the number is active, ported or roaming.

Does HLR lookup work for landlines?

No. HLR lookups exist for mobile numbers only.
